The Ultimate Hilton Head Island Honeymoon Itinerary: Romantic Dining, Beach Time, and Lowcountry Calm

By Hilton Head Insider

The planning has wrapped, the bells have rung, and the confetti has settled. As your guests head home, it’s time for you and your newly minted spouse to launch into your next great adventure: a honeymoon on Hilton Head Island.

This is the kind of trip that doesn’t need to be packed to feel memorable. If you’re drawn to fewer must-dos and more space to breathe, Hilton Head Island makes it easy to slow down, tune out the chatter, and focus on each other. Here’s a three-day honeymoon itinerary that blends romance, beach time, and just enough adventure to keep it fun.

Itinerary at a Glance

  • Day 1: Arrive + shoreline walk + celebratory dinner
  • Day 2: Beach day + bike ride + sunset meal
  • Day 3: Dolphin tour + golf/pickleball + final toast

Day 1: Arrive, exhale, and ease into Island time

Your first day is about landing softly. Unpack, take a deep breath, and shift from wedding-weekend whirlwind to Lowcountry calm.

Afternoon — A Welcoming Walk Along the Shore

Unpack, then head straight for the shore. Take a no-plan walk, shoes in hand, and let the ocean set the pace. For a romantic touch, bring a simple picnic (or grab something easy) and enjoy the first “just us” moment of your honeymoon.

Insider Tip: Put your phones on Do Not Disturb for the first hour you’re on the Island. Let the soundtrack be the waves rolling along the shore.

Evening — A Romantic Dinner Out

For the first meal of your honeymoon, choose a spot that feels celebratory, but true to who you are as a couple.

Insider Tip: Reservations aren’t always required, but we always recommend them. It’s smart to call ahead—especially in peak season.

Day 2: A secluded beach day and a bicycle built for two

Today is for sun, salt air, and the kind of unhurried time you don’t get in everyday life. This is the day you’ll remember when you’re back home in the routine.

Morning — Make the beach your home base

With 12 miles of pristine white sand and tranquil waters, Hilton Head Island is the perfect place to have a fun beach day. Pick a beach spot and settle in with a book, a playlist, and zero pressure to “do” anything. Not sure which beach to visit? Some of our favorites include:

Bonus: All of the beaches we’ve mentioned are equipped with mats for easier access, and you can rent a beach wheelchair through the Beach Wheelchair Program at select parks. For added convenience, consider beach setup services (such as Shore Beach Service, Inc) that deliver and arrange equipment so you can pack lighter.

Afternoon — Explore by bike

If you want to be a little more active, rent a bike from Hilton Head Outfitters & Bike Rentals and feel the freedom of our hard-packed beaches and 60+ miles of pathways connecting you from beach to beach. If you want honeymoon energy with a bit more playfulness, try a tandem bike built for two.

Evening — A sunset and dockside dinner

If you’re a romantic at heart, craving a cozy, stars-above kind of meal, make your way to Skull Creek Dockside for dinner on night two. This Hilton Head Island staple resembles an old-style river house, offering waterfront views, sunset magic, and a relaxed, romantic vibe that feels effortless.

Insider Tip: Time dinner around golden hour, then stay a few minutes after the check—watch the stars come out to shine and let the day end slowly.

Day 3: Share Something New

Few things are quite as bonding as sharing a new experience with a loved one. Lucky for you, Hilton Head Island is a paradise for such adventures. This is your “do something memorable” day—without turning it into a checklist. Pick one anchor experience, then keep the rest of the day open.

Morning — Dolphins, the Lowcountry way

Looking forward to seeing a dolphin pod in its natural habitat? Book a tour with Island Skiff Adventure Tours, where you can drive your own two-person skiff boat and see the dolphins who call our waters home up close and personal. Don’t worry, a guide will help you safely navigate the waters and show you the best spots to see our finned friends.

Afternoon — Choose one: Golf date or pickleball lesson

  • Golf: With plenty of courses on the Island, you can make it a classic Lowcountry day on the greens (especially fun if one of you is learning from the other).
  • Pickleball: It’s one of the fastest-growing sports in the U.S.—and it’s a surprisingly perfect honeymoon activity. Play a match, take a lesson, laugh a lot, and leave with a shared new hobby.

Evening — A final slow dinner and a simple toast

Keep the last night intentionally uncomplicated.

  • Pick your favorite dinner spot from earlier, or try one you didn’t get to.
  • End with one small tradition: a toast to your first week of married life, toes in the sand or under a big South Carolina sky.
