"The Dirty Side of Preservation" with Benjamin Curran

 

Benjamin Curran will talk about the importance of formal and informal

educational paths that reconnect people with the traditional arts, crafts, and

trades that define our built landscape.

 

Although the lectures are free and open to the public, donations are appreciated and guests must RSVP through Eventbrite. Dinners are $35 per person and can be purchased through Eventbrite, as well.

 

June 24 Dinner Information ($35 per person)

A Lowcountry Boil prepared by the Bluffton Oyster Company.

Includes shrimp, corn, sausage, potatoes, salad and ice tea. Proceeds go towards the restoration of the Historic Campbell Chapel.

"Stories in Stone: Preservation and Management of Historic Cemeteries" with Sabrinna L. Cox

 

Cemeteries are home to countless stories written in the stones placed to

memorialize past lives. There are many facets to consider in the conservation

of cemeteries such as documentation, repair and cleaning of headstones and

where responsibility lies. With the right approach and community support, the narratives captured in time can continue into the future.

"The Reconstruction Era in Bluffton: Discoveries from the National Register

Nomination Research for the Historic Campbell Chapel" with Carolyn Coppola

 

The research for the nomination of the The Historic Campbell Chapel to

the National Register of Historic Places uncovered physical evidence to

corroborate oral history. The absence of recorded history posed a challenge,

but a rich and compelling story about freedom in Bluffton and the Lowcountry during Reconstruction emerged. Learn about life here after the Civil War and how this church building became a symbol of the roadmap to a new life.
