The Office of Cultural Affairs for the Town of Hilton Head Island and the Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head Island are partnering to create the second installation of local artist Lauren Andreu's "For the Cause of Peace and Brotherhood" mural series.
The Boys & Girls Club is inviting its members and their families to help paint on Friday, May 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Club at 151 Gumtree Road. The entire community is invite to help paint the mural on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Andreu will design the mural as a paint-by-numbers project on the wall in the Club's gymnasium. On the day of the mural creation, residents of all ages can stop by, pick up a paintbrush and help paint the design. The subject of the mural is the responsibility the current and next generation has to become the peacemakers of today. This installation will feature American athlete, activist and philanthropist, Muhammad Ali. This mural is the second installation in the series; the first installation was painted in the Island Recreation Center's community meeting room and features iconic peacemakers Gandhi, Mother Teresa and Martin Luther King, Jr.
The mural project is free and open to the public. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate.
