Hilton Head Island’s got a music scene worth bragging about

Music…it’s a universal language.  I mean, really, have you ever heard anyone say that they don’t like it?!?  Whether your style is folk, choir hymns, heavy metal, reggae, pop or rap, there is truly a style out there for everyone.  Whether you know every word to a song or cannot translate even one syllable (Gangham Style, anyone?), pretty much any song can get a toe tapping.  And Hilton Head Island (and its surrounding areas) boasts a number of talented locals and amazing venues for rocking out.

Candice Glover, the most recent American Idol champ, grew up in the same county (Beaufort) as Hilton Head Island (and, just yesterday, preformed especially for local crowds at the Tanger Outlets in Bluffton); Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, John Mellencamp, has had a presence in the area since 1994; Zach Deputy, a home-grown artist, known for looping and his “island-infused drum n’ bass gospel ninja soul” returns home every now and again (keep your eye on his schedule), and, newest to the scene, local Hilton Head Island band, Cranford & Sons, a Mumford and Sons of the Lowcountry, if you will, sing the soul of the South (for their current scheduling, click here).  Plus, we have our fare share of amazing cover bands as well.  White Liquor, Hilton Head Island’s very own Rolling Stones Cover Band, frequents the local restaurant/bar scene; Silicone Sister rocks out (wigs and all) to the best 80s Hair Band sounds; and Deas-Guyz are always a crowd pleaser singing the greatest Motown Hits (don’t miss them on Sunday nights at The Jazz Corner).

If I’m to give you the real scoop on the Island’s music scene, it would be the best places to catch these acts (plus many more)!

My favorites include:

And if live music wasn't enough, Skull Creek Boathouse even has giant Jenga

There’s nothing better than music with a view!  And, you definitely get that here with a pretty regular live music schedule.  Plus, don’t miss the above mentioned Cranford & Sons at the Full Moon Party on Friday, September 20th.

Old Town Dispensary
In the heart of Old Town Bluffton, their outdoor courtyard is a great place to relax with friends and listen to live tunes.

The Tiki Hut
This Island institution, in addition to the beach volleyball and great drinks, is a fantastic venue for live music.  Beachside tunes…hard to beat!
