Applying for a Marriage License
To legally get married in the State of South Carolina, you must obtain a marriage license for the county where you will be wed. Both applicants must apply in person at the Probate Court Satellite office on Hilton Head Island or at the office of the Judge of Probate at the county courthouse. You must call in advance to make an appointment, which can be made on the hour.
Take note that there is a 24-hour waiting period once you have applied for your marriage license, so make sure to do so in advance. The cost of the license ranges from $50-$95. Find more information and resources before booking your appointment.
Other Important Information
If you plan to have your ceremony on the beach, you will require a wedding permit from the Town of Hilton Head Island. These permits are free of charge, and your application can be made online at least 30 days before your ceremony date.
