5 Reasons You Need to Visit Hilton Head Island this Fall
On Hilton Head Island, we don’t see as dramatic of a seasonal change as our northern counterparts. We get a gentle and warm sail off through the autumn months where we can still play in the waves, sip on a patio, and relish life in the great outdoors. It’s a true fall-lover’s paradise, and while we can think of about 101 ways we could demonstrate this to you, we’ll stick to our favorite five.
The Best Fall Weather Around
You know and love our balmy summer weather, but did you know our fall temperatures don’t differ all that much? September, October, and November each have an average high of 76°F, meaning there are nothing but sunny, warm days ahead for biking along the island’s 60 miles of multi-use pathways or down an additional 12 miles of hard-packed beaches.
Speaking of beaches and days in the sun, there’s a reason our little island has been tapped as one of the top family beach destinations in the country year after year. With seven public beaches, all of which are wheelchair accessible, you can easily take advantage of long sunny days and warm weather late into the year. The gorgeous days also lend themselves well to afternoon drinks and patio evenings under the wide, South Carolina sky. Whether you prefer a laidback environment or fine and fancy fare, one thing the majority of our 250 restaurants have in common is a love of time spent outside. With plentiful indoor and outdoor seating to choose from, nothing tastes better than a top-tier meal on a stunning day.

Fall Festivals
Hilton Head Island is home to a welcoming and vibrant community, and our festivals are a perfect way to see this in action and get a taste of island life. All autumn long, there are many fantastic festivals to take part in. (Bonus points for fall festivals: the relative calm of off-season travel means smaller crowds and a slower pace.)
On September 20, make tracks to the 7th Annual Hilton Head Island Shrimp Festival at The Sea Pines Resort. The whole family is invited to taste savory dishes from 15 local chefs, craft beer from 15 breweries, shop the wares of local vendors, and listen to live music. Bateau is happening at Haig Point Club on Daufuskie Island from October 23–26. This multi-day event showcases the heartbeat of Daufiskie Island through history, culture, Southern elegance, and exploration of Gullah traditions.
From October 29 to November 2, the Hilton Head Island Concours d'Elegance & Motoring Festival puts rubber to pavement and celebrates design, style, and innovation within the automotive industry. With driving tours, a film festival, an aero expo, a classic showcase, and more, there’s plenty to do for the whole family. As you can imagine, these are just a few of the many events and festivals happening this fall. There is something going on every week, all year long, on America’s Favorite Island®—explore the entire roster on our events page.

The Best Season? Golf Season
Every season is golf season on Hilton Head Island. With 26 courses, elite instructors, and world-class courses, there isn’t a better place to shoot your personal best or learn something new. Skip the summer rush and enjoy more tee times to choose from in the shoulder season, with stellar golf getaway packages that let you save more too!
The Sea Pines Resort offers Villa Golf Package that pairs premier golf with the luxury of a private villa rental. Palmetto Dunes Ocean Resort offers a Golf Academy Package where you can spend two full days learning from PGA-certified instructors with individual instruction and unlimited practice range use. Both of these resorts have several golf packages worth checking out. There are also many golf-focused events this fall to look forward to.
September 10, the Links & Legacy Invitational at Colleton River Club welcomes guests to play on one of the nation’s most celebrated courses. Additionally, the 7th Annual Osprey Village Golf Tournament takes place on November 9 at Golden Bear Golf Course in Indigo Run. This tournament raises funds to improve the quality of life for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It’s the perfect way to match your charitable mindset with your love of the game!
