Toptracer Range at Palmetto Dunes Brings Cutting Edge Technology to Hilton Head Golf Island

For golfers looking to keep the fun going post-round during their Hilton Head Island golf trip, Palmetto Dunes is the first resort in the Southeastern U.S. to feature a state-of-the-art Toptracer Range. Located at the Robert Trent Jones practice facility and learning center, golfers can compete against each other, play virtual courses and receive instant and accurate shot feedback at this new high-tech driving range.

If the name sounds familiar, Toptracer is heavily used during PGA TOUR broadcasts. It uses high-speed cameras and sophisticated computer algorithms to provide instantaneous ball tracking information. The Toptracer Range at Palmetto Dunes features 15 covered, outdoor bays with high-speed cameras, TV monitors, technology and games.

“With no covered driving range on Hilton Head Island, we felt the Toptracer Range would be a perfect fit,” said Palmetto Dunes Chief Operating Officer Brad Marra. “With the demographic of golfers and the number of golf courses we have at Palmetto Dunes, we are always looking forward, remaining innovative in everything we do. Toptracer Range is the latest offering we believe will help separate Palmetto Dunes from the rest on Hilton Head Island and around the Southeast.”

Some golfers come away from playing Palmetto Dunes’ three 18-hole championship courses in search of more betting “action” with their golf buddies. Others are looking for game improvement via shot tracking and the accompanying data. The Toptracer Range at Palmetto Dunes offers something for every player, with seven decidedly different experiences.

“Closest to the Pin,” “Approach Challenge” and “Points Game” are all perfect for a little friendly competition while also fine-tuning full-swing ball-striking and pitching. With “My Practice,” golfers can do a deep dive into the performance profile of every club in their bag.

And for diehards, it’s now possible to play 36 actual holes and 18 virtual in one day with Toptracer’s “Virtual Golf.” Imagine testing your mettle against Palmetto Dunes’ Robert Trent Jones, Arthur Hills and / or George Fazio courses by day, then teeing it up on Pebble Beach, Bethpage Black or Royal St. George’s with your family and friends late afternoon.

Juniors and families can also get in on the action with Toptracer’s ultra-child friendly game, “Go Fish.” Players bid to capture each of the 24 different sea creatures in their virtual aquarium by hitting shots to various targets on the driving range. Careful, mom and dad, this one’s addictive.

Casual seating, drinks and food service are available during specific times of day. The menu features handheld options like nachos, chips and guacamole, chicken strips with fries, wings, pizzas, pretzel bites and hummus served with carrots, cucumber and naan bread. Soft drinks, beer, wine and mixed drinks are also available on the range.

Each bay holds up to four people, and the VIP area can accommodate eight to 10. For those without clubs, or those who want to sample the latest gear, new Callaway rental clubs are available $10 for the duration of the bay rental.
