What is the 58th RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing?

If this is your first 58th RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing, you’re in the right place. We’ll help you feel prepared for the week ahead — from the tournament basics to the little details that make the day more comfortable (and more fun).

The 58th RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing is a PGA Tour event in South Carolina in mid-April, the week after The Masters in Augusta, Georgia. The very first RBC Heritage was 57 years ago in 1969, and has been held at Harbour Town Golf Links at The Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island since its inception.

Fun Fact: The inaugural champion of the RBC Heritage in 1969 was Arnold Palmer. Consider ordering up the drink named in his honor while visiting Hilton Head Island this spring.

Dressing for the event is important, but so is being prepared for the weather and lots of walking. Here’s what seasoned spectators plan for:

  • Lowcountry spring can change fast. Expect everything from sunny days to cool breezes, and even the occasional surprise showers. View our current weather here.
  • Pack light layers you can add and remove easily (a breathable base, plus a lightweight jacket is usually perfect).
  • Sun protection is a must, especially on long days outdoors. Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat with a brim.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. You’ll be standing, sitting, walking between holes, waiting in food lines, and just generally walking about a lot all day.
  • Bring only a small bag. No bags larger than a small purse (6” by 6”) are allowed into the venue. You can check the full list of permitted and prohibited items here.

The tournament even has its own signature plaid: a red, blue, yellow, black, and white tartan inspired by Scottish golf tradition. Since the 1970s, it has been worn by champions, officials, and fans during the event. Here are some outfit ideas to inspire you to dress up your plaid during the event:

What Else is There to Do on Hilton Head Island?

There’s plenty to explore beyond the greens, and it’s worth saving time for the rest of America’s Favorite Island®.

The Island has seven public beaches with pristine white sand throughout, so it’s easy to sneak in a sunrise stroll or a sunset walk after the final pairing comes through. Don’t forget to look out into the ocean for a chance to spot some dolphins from shore!

Our natural wonderland also has some incredible green space (and this time, we’re not talking about golf). Rent bikes for the whole family and take your time exploring The Sea Pines Forest Preserve or Pinckney Island. Your binoculars will also come in handy here as you look for birds migrating through the area.

Get out on the water, or simply dine al fresco. If you have time, we highly recommend booking a kayak tour or dolphin cruise; it’s the best way to experience Hilton Head Island. However, if you’re tuckered out from all the action, head to one of our beautiful patios for sea-to-table dining instead. Some restaurants with spectacular views are Skull Creek Boathouse and the iconic Quarterdeck in Harbour Town. No matter where you choose, let the sound of the ocean waves bring you some calm after the long days in the sun.
