Gentle Surrealism and Escapism by John K. Crum at Art League this October

Finding the Rhythm of Nature: Art That Makes You Smile, featuring the work of John K. Crum, will run October 13 through November 13 at Art League Gallery. Crum’s whimsical, expressive paintings capture the magic and beauty of the coastal Lowcountry through bright colors, bold brushstrokes, layered compositions, and his signature "gently surreal landscapes."

Inspired by the Lowcountry as well as his travels, Crum blends serene realism with surreal elements and a touch of whimsy. His work explores themes of love, inner peace, nostalgia, and the human spirit, using meaningful symbols and narrative elements to invite viewers to stop, take a closer look, and discover the story within each painting.

"I invite you to explore my paintings up close and embark on your own magical journey," says Crum. "Hearing viewers and collectors express how my art makes them smile and what it means to them is a source of profound satisfaction and motivation."

A graduate of The Ringling School of Art & Design, Crum has enjoyed a long career in illustration, graphic arts, book design, mural painting, and fine art. He came to Hilton Head Island from Ohio more than two decades ago and continues to draw inspiration from the distinctive landscapes and creative community of the Lowcountry.

An artist reception will be held Wednesday, October 21, from 5-7pm. Crum will also present an artist demonstration on Friday, October 30, at 10:30am. The exhibit, reception, and demonstration are free and open to the public.
