You might not be able to run to the island itself, but once you get there the DI marathon is an experience you’ll never forget. Spanning the island, the USATF run takes you through the gated community of Haig Point, past the historic 1873 Lighthouse, Freeport Marina, the first African Baptist Church, the Daufuskie Island Rum Company and Winery, and 2 miles along the Atlantic coastline. Runners will likely encounter the vast wildlife the island offers; everything from Marsh Tacky Horses and white tailed deer to fox squirrels, alligators, wild turkey and more.
The first DI marathon sold out in a matter of days- limited to 100 runners. This year, 500 will be able to participate in the run- meaning if full, the population of island will more than double in a matter of hours
