A local friend group and their dogs raise money for local charitable organizations each year. Left-behind beach toys are collected every summer and the public is invited to donate to guess the number. Each donor is entered to win a prize.
This year, Cashew and his friends are asking the public to guess how many toys they picked up from the beach this summer for a chance to win a $200 gift card to The Sea Pines Resort.
Each guess is $5 and benefits The Deep Well Project. Guesses can be made by stopping by Cashew's Caravan, parked in The Gallery of Shops off of the Sea Pines Circle through the month of September.
Lifelong Hilton Head Island local Susan Ochsner and her dog, Cashew, walk the beach in Sea Pines with friends every morning. In 2017, the group decided they could do more than simply donate the left-behind beach toys they picked up each day. They spent the summer collecting the trinkets and storing them in Ochsner's 2000 Buick Park Avenue.
At the end of the summer, they counted them and launched a contest for people to guess how many they'd found. Since starting the fundraiser, Ochsner has raised $4,440.
Cashew's Caravan is parked at The Gallery of Shops, right before the entrance to the The Sea Pines Resort.
