To everyone who came to visit Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, and Daufuskie Island in 2017: you’re the best, and we hope you had a wonderful time.

Throughout the year, we asked you to share snapshots of your #LowcountryLife vacation with us, and boy, did you ever. From Jason from Atlanta, to Kyler from Phoenix, to Leni from Florida, and Dana from Southern California, visitors came from all over to stretch out on the sand, bike on our beaches, hike our pristine trails, and sample Southern delights. You all really wowed us with your photos of our little slice of heaven we call home, so we rounded up some of our favorite #LowcountryLife moments from 2017 to share in case you missed them. Want even more photos? Follow us on Instagram. We’ll deliver them right to your feed for a daily dose of Hilton Head Island; A.K.A. America’s Island.

The Salty Dog Café has been a Hilton Head Island staple for years, so we’re not surprised Instagram went crazy for this shot from Jason Feldman. Will you be digging into the flavors of Lowcountry soon? Here are ten must-try Lowcountry restaurants to add to your list.

It’s turtle time! If you visit Hilton Head Island during the loggerhead turtle’s nesting and hatching season, you might be lucky to spot a hatchling making its way to sea. Stephanie Schuttler kept a respectful distance and got this once-in-a-lifetime video, and of course the crowd went wild.

If you don’t snap a photo of the Harbour Town Lighthouse, a Hilton Head Island icon, were you really here? Mandy Matney stopped to take this photo on her bike ride, and we’re so glad she did.

You know what they say: “Red skies at night, visitor’s delight.” Ok, fine, we swapped “sailor” for “visitor”, but you get the gist. A Hilton Head Island sunset (or sunrise, for that matter) is one of those moments that takes our breath away no matter how many times we see one. Kelly Carver captured this beautifully in her photo.

You didn’t think we could make it through a list of the top photos around Hilton Head Island without a few beach shots, did you? We basically hear the waves crashing and smell the salty air when we look at this photo from Ali Savage, so it had to make it onto this list.

Ancient oaks. Moss-covered trails. It doesn’t get more Southern than this, y’all. We love to hike and bike all over Hilton Head Island and we’re so glad our visitors do, too. The greatest outdoors is right here in Lowcountry, as Colleen Bachmann shows us.

When you see a stretch of pristine white sand beach speckled with blue umbrellas, you know you’re on Hilton Head Island. We love the drone photos we see from visitors, and this photo from Kyler Nixon takes our breath away every time we see it.

It doesn’t surprise us that Daufuskie Island’s rich history and unspoiled landscape is popular on Instagram. Just look at how stunning this photo from Kelli Axley is. She captured the “oyster house” of Frances Jones, one of the few standing Gullah homes on the island, so beautifully.

Oh my stars, what a photo. On a clear night, with the right camera, you can catch an all-natural lightshow on our shores. Dave Pluimer’s picture-perfect snapshot of Hilton Head Island after dark deserves a round of applause.

Day trips to Bluffton are a must when vacationing on Hilton Head Island. Not only for the quintessential Southern charm, good eats, and shopping, but also for the Instagram shots. This one from Andrea Garneata is a show-stopper.
