Maps & Directions

The Bluffton Police Department began as a one-man agency in 1903. The one officer covered the one-square-mile of the Town, now known as Old Town. In the early 1900’s, the Town had a population of 577 people. Over the next several decades, much didn’t change. The Bluffton Police Department remained very small, with its jurisdiction covering just as small of an area. It wasn’t until the late 90’s when a population increase was noticed and the need for more officers became apparent. From the census in 1990 to the census in 2000, the population jumped from 738 people to 1,275 people.

Today the Bluffton Police Department is made up of 49 sworn officers covering 54-square miles. It encompasses a patrol, investigations, emergency management and support divisions. As the Town and the Police Department continue to grow, Chief Joey Reynolds makes it his mission to lead a community-oriented department focusing on the best interest of the citizens that live, work and visit Bluffton.
