Location: FLOW Gallery + Workshop 76 Boat House Street, Bluffton, SC 29910

Maps & Directions

Join nationally acclaimed artist and gilder, Alan Shuptrine, for this unique workshop which will offer the opportunity to learn about the lost art of gilding. From genuine gold leaf to alloys to applied metallics, gilding decorative works of art has been perfected over thousands of years. Participants will learn about the historical background, the materials, and the various techniques of applying gold to a frame or decorative work of art. Focusing on both water and oil-size gilding, each participant will have hands-on experience with the time-honored tools and materials of a gilder. In addition, the workshop will allow each participant to experiment and create their own take-home treasure of a beautiful lowcountry bird’s nest, featuring an exquisite trio of wooden blue heron eggs, enhanced with acrylic paints and 23 Kt. gold leaf. This workshop is designed for all skill levels.
