The Heart & Soul of Daufuskie Island

Eclectic, intriguing, and unique. The arts scene on Daufuskie Island is a colorful blend of woodworking, pottery, basket weaving, painting, and cast-iron workings that brings the island lifestyle and rich Gullah history to life.

The beautiful natural surroundings inspire many of the artists’ work like Chase Allen, owner of Iron Fish Art. Chase combines his passion for blacksmithing and welding as well as the Lowcountry waters to create one-of-a-kind pieces that represent the beauty of Daufuskie Island.

As you roam around the island, you will notice wooden “Rum” signs nailed to trees along the unpaved roads. Follow the arrows and you’ll soon find yourself winding down a path to the Daufuskie Island Rum Company. Set amongst majestic oaks cloaked in Spanish moss, the Rum Company is the vision of Daufuskie local Tony Chase along with his business partners and friends. Tour the distillery and of course sample the wares, including the newly released Daufuskie Island Spiced Rum.

On Daufuskie Island you can take your time and browse the many galleries all while chatting directly with the artists whose creations you’re viewing. The best way to preserve the experience to is to take a treasured piece home with you to serve as a daily reminder of this special place.
