If you follow The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa on Instagram, then you’re sure to have seen sneak peek images from the resort’s recent Wed at the Westin event! We’re thrilled to share more details from the four-day August soiree, where alongside nationally-recognized luxury event planner Mary-Frances Hurt, The Westin welcomed 16 of the country’s top wedding industry professionals to their oceanfront property for a networking event unlike any other!
The aim of Wed at the Westin was to introduce wedding planners and designers from across the nation to the premier venues and service offerings available at The Westin, and to highlight Hilton Head Island as a leading destination wedding locale as well. Attendees including Lindsay Pitt of TOAST Events, Ashley Rhodes of Ashley Rhodes Event Designs, Ivy Robinson of Ivy Robinson Events, and the founders of Inside Weddings magazine enjoyed wining and dining on The Westin’s Oceanfront Deck, dancing to live entertainment by Deas-Guyz, mingling amid fabulous décor by Kelli Corn Weddings & Events, and so much more. But before we get ahead of ourselves, here’s a quick recap of what the planners and designers experienced from August 9-12 during Wed at the Westin!
After picking up fabulous welcome swag bags – patterned Spartina 449 totes for the ladies, Patagonia messenger bags for the gentleman – guests settled into their rooms and prepared for an al fresco kick-off event on The Westin’s Oceanfront Deck. The evening welcome party featured a custom cocktail bar, creative salads presented in mason jars, and southern sweets from The Westin’s top-notch culinary team, plus a surprise mock wedding ceremony featuring a gospel serenade by The Voices of El Shaddai choir! As the sun sank beneath the sea, guests including Kasey Conyers of Bliss Wedding & Event Design and Lucy Diaz-Flores of Bella Flora of Dallas gathered beneath a custom wooden arch strung with Edison bulbs to enjoy conversation and bluegrass tunes from Lowcountry Boil Band.
On day two, Lauren Heiler of Todd Events, Jackson Durham’s Heath Alan Ray, and the rest of The Westin’s guests enjoyed their pick of activities on the island. From mimosas and massages at the Heavenly Spa, to outdoor activities like zip lining and stand-up paddle boarding provided by Outside Hilton Head, attendees experienced just a sampling of the lifestyle that visitors and locals alike enjoy on Hilton Head Island! The festivities took a turn for the glamorous during the evening’s fine food and wine dinner, a “City Meets the Lowcountry” themed affair held in The Westin’s Grand Ballroom.
A candlelit table surrounded by breathtaking black and white draping stood at the center of the ballroom and was filled with eye-catching details – gold seating card holders in familiar Lowcountry motifs hand-crafted by Kelli Corn, lavish laser cut menus created by DFW Events, and crème-colored florals, just to name a few. The evening ended with a flourish thanks to an incredible performance by Jeremy Davis and the Fabulous Equinox Orchestra, which inspired Nicki Korman of TOAST of the Coast, Dora Manuel of Viva Bella Events, Joseph St. Cyr of Joseph Todd Events, and other attendees to take a spin on the dance floor one last time!
COASTAL CHIC CELEBRATION
All good things must come to an end, and Wed at the Westin was no exception. On their last full day in Hilton Head, wedding professionals including Ali Phillips of Engaging Events by Ali, Très Chic Southern Weddings owner Whitney Carillon, and Luke Wilson of Luke Wilson Events enjoyed a dolphin cruise, lunch at the private South Carolina Yacht Club, walking the streets of historic Old Town Bluffton, and taking pictures in front of the iconic Harbour Town Lighthouse while on their island tour. As a grand finale, attendees tucked in to coastal cuisine crafted by The Westin – think shrimp and grits, watermelon and feta salad, and crab dip – before hitting the dance floor as Deas-Guyz crooned classic jazz tunes beneath the fabulously-arrayed Oceanfront Pavilion!
