Hilton Head Island a ‘DREAMY’ Destination

If you were watching the “Open” Championship (what, are they embarrassed to be called the British Open? Or just arrogant enough to think they’re “the” Open?) and, like me, are now dreaming of a golf vacation in the winds and misery of the links of Scotland and Ireland, just as many of you are probably dreaming of a destination a little closer to home with a lot friendlier weather!

GOLF.com, the golf arm of Sports Illustrated, got responses from 6,000 of their readers on the places they dream about playing and, just like the PGA TOUR pros a couple of years ago, rank Hilton Head Island among their favorite golf destinations, and especially for families who share a love of the game.

Hilton Head Island’s depth of world-class golf experiences has it ranked 7th in the U-S as the “Most Dreamed About Destination” among surveyed golfers, 5th best for Family Golf, and the Sea Pines Resort also among the Top Ten “Favorite Golf Resorts” in the country. And the number of resorts and destinations to be represented on all three lists? ONLY Hilton Head Island.

And a little secret about Hilton Head Island golf? While all of the major operators in the Lowcountry are as competitive as they come, they also are remarkably cooperative, and if you’re booking your rounds with one course collection, they’ll gladly help you get on somebody else’s layout, probably at a better rate than you’d find yourself. They love golf as much as you do.

So whether you’re looking for a great family getaway before the summer sun sets, or are planning that trip to enjoy Hilton Head Island in all its fall finery (with a fall season that lasts from September through Thanksgiving, and often beyond), you’ll experience what those 6-thousand readers told GOLF.com, if you haven’t already. Also, Harbour Town Golf Links reopens in late September from a summer re-grassing and you can be one of the first to trod on the new sod.

Oh, and by the way, do you wonder if GOLF.com’s readers know what they’re talking about? Well, they ranked Scotland, host of this year’s Open Championship (okay, I’ll do it their way) as their #1 Favorite International Destination.
