We attend a massive number of food festivals across the country and now after being invited to experience Hilton Head’s Wine & Food Festival, we are hooked! For us, there is be no better place to experience some of the best wine from across the country and the most incredible regional cuisine of Hilton Head. The charm and hospitality that we were greeted with blew our minds and the Men Who Dine now speak with a slight southern drawl! See more at MEN WHO DINE
Having never been to Hilton Head, we did not know what to really expect other that the fact that it is one of the golf capitals of the world. The sheer beauty of this island really stole our hearts and the friendships that we made will be ever lasting. There are not many places that you visit which make you feel immediately at home and truly welcome. From the moment we drove across the bridge from the mainland onto the island we were transported to some magical other-world, like something out of a dream. We now believe in love at first sight! As we arrived at the stunning Sonesta Resort, we were greeted with what we can only consider one of the nicest receptions we have ever experienced! It seemed as the entire staff came over to greet us, welcome us to Hilton Head and made sure that every detail of our stay was perfect. The newly renovated oceanfront resort located in the Ship Plantation is a work of art. The rooms are spacious, warmly decorated and ultimately comfortable. After spending time with and getting to know some of the management and very talented executive chef, we understand why this property is world class. We cannot say enough about the wonderful time we had at this hotel and trust us, we will be back! See more at MEN WHO DINE
The Hilton Head Wine & Food Festival celebrated its 30th year and takes the honor of being one of the oldest wine and food festivals in the country. This is a serious distinction as many of these events come and go. Another unique feature of the Hilton Head Wine & Food Festival is the International Wine Competition. In late January, Certified Wine Educators and Sommeliers spend 3 days judging over 850 different wines. Gold and silver medals are awarded and those wines are featured throughout the festival events along with other vintner’s choices.
The food at the festival is all about the region’s low country cuisine. We got a very good education about this outstanding cuisine which is all about fresh, local products and big flavors. If you are a seafood fanatic as we are, this is just the place for you to visit. Imagine local oysters pulled from their beds just a few hours before you eat them; shrimp and fish so fresh, they are probably still moving. This is what local cuisine is all about. Yes friends, low country cuisine is our new addiction!
