The Beaches of Hilton Head Island

Explore the Best Beaches of South Carolina

Play in the sand, frolic in the surf, walk along the sandy shores of the Atlantic Ocean and bask in more than 12 miles of some of the best beaches in the United States. From South Beach to Folly Field Beach, Forest Beach to Driessen Beach, and every beach in between, it’s no wonder Hilton Head Island has been recognized as one of the top 10 family beaches in the country. And with so many pristine stretches of sand, warm waters, and days filled with sunshine, it's no surprise we're renowned as one of the most relaxing vacation destinations. In fact, Hilton Head Island has been ranked the #1 Island in the Continental U.S. and #1 Island in the U.S. by readers of Travel+Leisure Magazine and Conde Nast Traveler for the past several years, and even ranked the #2 Island in the World by readers of Travel+Leisure Magazine in 2017.

Sea Turtle Season in the Lowcountry

Every year between May and October, sea turtles visit the beaches of Hilton Head Island. In 2021, 283 nests were laid on our pristine beaches. Two volunteer organizations, Sea Turtle Patrol Hilton Head Island and Turtle Trackers, work hard every morning and evening during nesting season to protect sea turtle nests and ensure the hatchlings can make a safe journey from the beach to their ocean home. Learn how you can help preserve endangered turtles.
