Heyward House

The Heart of Bluffton is in The Heyward House

Begin your visit to Old Town Bluffton at the Heyward House, an antebellum home that now serves the community as a cultural center and headquarters of the Bluffton Historical Preservation Society, Inc.  Local art, antiques and crafts are on display in the Heyward House museum, and friendly guides offer house tours of the site.

The Heyward House exemplifies early Carolina farmhouse architecture and was built as a summer home in the 1840’s by John James Cole, a builder and cotton planter.  One of the few structures that survived a fire started by nearby Union troops in 1863, it’s a great place to start your tour of the surrounding National Register Historic District.
