Brush up on your tennis skills and take home more than just a tan
Sure, who doesn’t envision themselves on vacation lounging on the beach sipping on a frosty, tropical Pina Colada? After a long day’s work sitting behind a desk hunched over my keyboard, that is one of the reoccurring daydreams I tend to have. But in reality, if you’re like me, sitting on the beach can get a little old after the first 2-3 hours. I wouldn’t say I typically show signs of ADD in my day-to-day life, but, on vacation, I (and many more like me) are looking for more than just the beachside Barcalounger.
Vacations are increasingly becoming more active and more and more vacationers are looking to take something home besides the beautiful tan they’ve achieved during their time off.
Hilton Head Island offers the perfect answer. You can still work on your tan, you get in your daily exercise to help burn off those vacation-required daiquiris and, when you get home, you can put your new skills to the test and defeat your arch rival on the court with the skills you’ll pick up in one of the many tennis clinics offered around the Island for all age groups during the summer season.
- At Van der Meer Tennis several clinic options are offered for every age group (from Junior Camps to Adults to Seniors) and for every level. For a complete clinic schedule, click here. And keep your eye on their schedule. Occasionally, they will offer free clinics and/or exhibitions.
- Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort offers a multitude of clinic options for all levels. From clinics that focus on your serve to Cardio Tennis and much more, Palmetto Dunes’ adult clinics start as low as $30.
In addition to their array of instructional programs offered, the Sea Pines Racquet Club offers through the end of August a Pro Exhibition and Happy Hour every Monday at 5:30pm with pro demonstrations, refreshments, prize drawings, and more!
- The Port Royal Racquet Club, set amid pines, maples, live oaks and the occasional magnolia, boasts a full schedule of programs for adults and juniors as well as a Mixed-Up Doubles Round Robin.
In addition to the award-winning programs mentioned above, The Island Rec Center hosts a public round robin every Sunday from 1pm to 3pm at the Chaplin public tennis courts.
