A guide to Hilton Head Island’s fall shopping
My name is Lindsey and I’m a shopaholic. Much to my husband’s dismay, there’s no getting around it. Whether it’s scanning local stores for how I would furnish my dream home, hitting the high-end retailers for the perfect special occasion piece, bargain hunting for great work apparel or scouring online retailers to keep up with the latest trends, shopping is in my blood. In fact, whenever I travel, I love to check out the local boutiques and track down that one (or two or three or four) keepsake that I can take home with me to always remember that trip and special time. Now I get to share my insight as to the best places to hit here in my hometown. And the best part is, when you’re shopping on Hilton Head Island, rather than just hitting the mall as you would in your normal routine, you can shop while soaking in the sunshine and taking in the beautiful weather at a number of fabulous and unique retailers.
The New Kid(s) on the Block
Affordables Apparel in the Fresh Market Shops (890 William Hilton Parkway, Hilton Head Island)
A South Carolina tradition since 1969, doors at the Hilton Head Island location opened earlier this year offering a selection of handpicked women’s apparel, shoes, jewelry, handbags and more. And, new fall fashions including great jackets (boxy and cinched are two top outerwear trends for fall 2013) are now available!
Louette in the Village Exchange (32 Palmetto Bay Road, Hilton Head Island)
Opening in March, Louette offers an Anthropologie-esque feel with airy and casual clothing, colorful jewelry, attention-grabbing clutches and adorable home wares. New arrivals are just in for fall including a number of cozy, yet stylish, sweaters. Louette even offers trendy styles for the avid college football fan and for babies with black and white onesies (a staple for this fall).
Outside Hilton Head in Shelter Cove Plaza (32 Shelter Cove Lane, Hilton Head Island)
While known for their adventures on the water and the go to for exploring the Hilton Head Island “Lowcountry,” Outside Hilton Head also offers a retail location with all the stylish goods for the outdoors including women’s sportswear, leather goods, footwear including the latest styles from names like UGG and Frye (I’m currently saving up to get a pair) and much more!
Quiet Storm in Coligny Plaza (1 North Forest Beach Drive, Hilton Head Island)
Offering a variety of apparel and accessories for the Island girl (and guy), Quiet Storm boasts names such as Volcom, Quicksilver and Billabong among many others. My favorites?
Their wide array of Toms, a staple for Island life and style. And, while at Coligny Plaza, don’t miss Francesca’s Collections which has a number of the hottest trends for fall including leather accents and peplums and great gift and accessory items.
It’s a State of Mind
Gigi’s Clothing Boutique in Old Town Bluffton (40 Calhoun Street, Bluffton)
When in town, do not miss out on an afternoon on Calhoun Street in Old Town Bluffton. Amongst the galleries and restaurants, you’ll find a wide selection of boutiques with goods not be found elsewhere. One of my go-to’s, Gigi’s, has a great designer denim selection (a must have for any girl’s closet), cute dresses and a variety of accessories including jewelry, shoes, belts, scarves and bags.
The Porcupine in The Village at Wexford (1000 William Hilton Parkway, Hilton Head Island)
A long-time fixture on Hilton Head Island, The Porcupine lives by its motto, “a passion for fashion.” With top designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Elizabeth & James, Tory Burch and Rachel Zoe, it’s the perfect spot to get suited up for fall. If you’re like me, you’ll be drooling over the selection within seconds of stepping through the doors.
Tanger Outlets in Bluffton (1414 Fording Island Road, Bluffton)
Between Tanger 1 and Tanger 2, you can find just about anything you want, and, at a great price! My must hits whenever I head off Island include BCBGMAXAZRIA (Tanger 1), J Crew Factory (Tanger 1), Banana Republic Factory Store (Tanger 2), Vince Camuto (Tanger 1), Theory (Tanger 1), Joe’s Jeans (Tanger 1) and Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH (Tanger 1). And, after burning all those calories shopping, a trip wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Auntie Anne’s Pretzel Perfect!
