Guilt Free Halloween

Bring on the candy, I’m running this Halloween

In preparation for this Halloween, I’ll be combining two of my family’s favorite things…running and ghoulish mayhem.  Amongst my immediate family, we have 27 marathons under our soles and a countless number of shorter races.  And, as a kid, my mom really took on the challenge of enhancing the Halloween experience with terrifying haunted houses.  I HATED having to go into my parent’s attic to retrieve things.  You never knew what would pop up as my mom stored all of her Halloween props in the attic.  I kid you not, she even had a Paper Mache coffin amongst her goodies.

This year, I’m excited that we’ll get to combine these two passions with Bear Foot Sports’ Zombie Run (October 26, 2013 at 5pm) offering both a 5k and a 1-mile fun run.  The race will take runners through the historic streets of Old Town Bluffton.  And, a new twist to this 5k, runners will have to bob and weave around goblins and ghouls positioned throughout the course.  And, if you beat the “running zombie” to the finish line, you’ll be rewarded with a special treat.

While I have my fair share of running experience – I’ve run through the mud, next to Dr. Seuss characters, dressed as Pippi Longstockings and, while I was dressed, yes, even alongside naked runners in the San Francisco’s Bay to Breakers – this will be a first for me.

Can you outrun the Zombies?!?

Can you outrun the Zombies?!?

Runners are encouraged to dress for the festivities and will be judged in a costume contest at the finish line (to include food, music and more) at The Calhoun Street Promenade.  Plus, after the race, special for the adults, will be a Pub Crawl around historic Bluffton bars from 7pm to 9pm.  And, the best part, after getting the miles in, you can only feel so guilty about indulging on your favorite trick or treat goodies.

Entry fees start as low as $20 (adults) and are offered at a discount if you register before October 24th.  To register online, click here.
