Hilton Head Island may be positioned on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean on the border of South Carolina and Georgia and may average high temperatures of 63 degrees in the month of December but who’s to say that you can’t enjoy some of the coolest holiday traditions on our shoe-shaped barrier island.  The Sea Pines Resort offers an array of opportunities to help get you and your family into the holiday spirit.

Looking for a holiday adrenaline rush?!?  Look no further than the Thirteenth Annual Polar Bear Swim!  Join fellow “polar bears” and take a plunge into the Harbour Town pool on December 31st.  I can’t think of a better way to close out 2013 than an invigorating dip in the heart of Hilton Head Island.

I can’t say I’ve ever done a polar swim or plunge in my almost thirty-two years, but I’m going to make the last day of 2013 one to remember by dunking in and braving the cold.  Join me at 10am in the morning to get the day started with a thrill!  The event is complimentary to anyone crazy enough to plunge and hot chocolate and refreshments will be served following the dip.

Want something a little less extreme?  You’ve got a few options pre and post Christmas.

  1. The Honored Guest

Want to take in the musical sounds of Christmas?  Don’t miss Gregg Russell’s special holiday concert on Monday, December 23rd which will include a surprise appearance by none other than Mr. Santa Claus himself.

  2. Looking to relax and take in the beautiful holiday weather that Hilton Head Island offers?  Take your family to Holiday Fun in Harbour Town offered each day from Thursday, December 26th through Monday, December 30th.   Evening festivities kick off with games and activities for all members of the family at 4pm with classic holiday movies shown on the big screen under the Liberty Oak Tree starting at 6pm.  Snuggle up under the most iconic tree on Hilton Head Island while enjoying your favorite films and roasting marshmallows over a fire pit.
  3. Want to see the full colors of the holiday rainbow?  You won’t want to miss the holiday lights display throughout the Harbour Town yacht basin.

Whatever your holiday fancy, The Sea Pines Resort has something to offer you!  For a complete schedule of entertainment and activities, visit www.seapines.com/events  or contact the Recreation Department at 843.842.1979.
