We’ve all played our own renditions of ‘military golf’. You know, hitting the ball, left, then right, then left, then right?
The Heritage Golf Collection on Hilton Head Island has taken command in supporting our troops during their ‘Military Outreach Week’, inviting active-duty military and their spouses to play FREE golf on their SEVEN courses during the week of November 7th to 14th (and free tennis on Port Royal’s beautiful courts)—with $29 rounds for veterans and their spouses and $39 rounds for their guests during the week. But offering up a great golf deal is only part of the celebration of ‘Military Outreach Week.’
The Heritage Collection’s efforts will help a handful of military-related charities with the more long-term goal of supporting our troops after their selfless service to our country. Four different military support groups; career support group ‘NS2’ (www.ns2serves.org), emergency assistance group ‘Operation Homefront’ (www.operationhomefront.net), ‘Birdies for the Brave’ (www.birdiesforthebrave.org) and scholarship support group ‘Tennis Thanks the Troops’ (www.thanksusa.org) will receive donations from a week of activities on and off their golf courses.
Port Royal Golf Club will host the biggest event, the Birdies for the Brave tournament with a noon shotgun Friday, November 6th. The Port Royal tennis courts will host clinics and a doubles exhibition on Saturday morning. Sunday the 8th will feature an Oyster Roast at Oyster Reef Golf Club’s LagerHead Tavern in Hilton Head Plantation (all-you-can-eat Oysters and Wings with Live Music for a minimum $25 donation?). Wednesday the 11th, Veterans Day, will salute the military with food stations that are complimentary for active-duty military, and free with a small donation for the rest of us, with a cash bar available. And on Saturday the 15th, Palmetto Hall will host a 5k Run for the Brave at 0800 hours with a Kids Fun run, and food and drink specials.
Preferred hotel rates are available at three of the Island’s hoteliers—the Westin, the Sonesta and the Hampton Inn. More information on all of the activites is available at http://www.hiltonheadisland.org/golf/golf-events/ or by calling 843-681-1703.
The Heritage Collection owns and operates the 54 holes of golf/history lesson at Port Royal Golf Club, the player-friendly 27-hole layout at Shipyard, and three spectacular 18-hole courses on the north end of the Island, Palmetto Hall’s Cupp and Hills Courses and picturesque Oyster Reef in Hilton Head Plantation.
Left, right, left, right? It looks “all” right to those of us who want to give back to those who’ve given so much.
