Summer “dog days” are a breeze at the Bluffton “Dog Days of Summer” Sunset Party

There are two more Bluffton Sunset Parties this year! Friday, Aug. 16th and Friday, Sept. 20!

As summer wanes in Bluffton, usually the temperature does not, making late afternoon and early evening the perfect time to catch a May river breeze. Throw in a gorgeous Lowcountry sunset, live tunes, great food and some folks who also relish celebrating something as simple as a Bluffton sunset or as arcane as summer’s dog days and you may find yourself at the Bluffton “Dog Days of Summer” Sunset Party on Friday, Aug. 16th. Hey, if you can’t beat the heat, might as well celebrate it!

Continuing a tradition that began a few years back, the fun starts at 5 pm at Bluffton Oyster Factory Park. There will be an array of great eats from Bluffton Oyster Co. Seafood House (their docks are adjacent to the park by the way), Red Stripes Caribbean Restaurant, Tavern 46, Palm Key Catering, Fiddlehead Pizza, Melly Mel’s and Giuseppi’s Pizza. Cool your heels with the over 30 craft beers found in the beer garden plus soft drinks, wine and bottled water will be available for purchase.

These events are held at Bluffton’s Oyster Factory Park, adjacent to the May River and the docks of the Bluffton Oyster Company.

Kids are welcome to join in the celebration and there will be a host of FREE activities just for them, like face painting, games and more! As mentioned music also plays a huge part in the festivities and “Dog Days” won’t let you down. Craig Coyne starts off the evening with his soulful rock guitar playing anything from Hank Williams to Hendrix. Around 7 pm the band Lionz of Zion (fresh from being selected over 4,000 bands for the VANS Warped Tour 2013) takes the stage with it’s energizing ‘Rock & Reggae’ sound.

So now you may be asking yourself…are all these people simply crazy to celebrate the steamy, humid nights of August? The answer is yes, but there is a secondary reason…these dog days are truly for the dogs… and the cats… and a lot of other critters rescued and cared for by The Palmetto Animal League. A portion of the proceeds for this event – and the 5th upcoming Sunset Party, Blufftemberfest – a Bluffton Style Octoberfest, as well November’s Bluffton Beer Fest go to support the wonderful work of this no-kill animal shelter. Additionally Palmetto Animal League will have dogs available for adoption at these events.

A portion of the proceeds from these events benefit Palmetto Animal League, a no-kill shelter here in Beaufort County, helping our animal friends like Luke the Coonhound, find their forever home!

All these three include great food & beverages, live music and the unsurpassed laid back ambiance of Bluffton, not to mention our friendly (and occasionally eccentric) locals. If you’re hoping to see that “Bluffton State of Mind” and be part of it yourself, there’s no better time or place to find it than the Sunset Party, Blufftemberfest or the Bluffton Beer Fest!a
