The chilly temperatures couldn’t keep the crowds away as the Farmer’s Market of Bluffton opened its Winter Market for the 2015 season. Located at Carson Cottages on Calhoun St., the Winter Market is open every Thursday from 12 – 4pm. Vendors from North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina are bringing everything from collards to peanuts to fresh pasta to artisan bread.
Can’t get away from work to pick up fresh produce? This year the Farm Bag program returns to help get fresh products to locals. The program is a CSA-style pick-up system that makes the market offerings available to people unable to make it out to Calhoun St. Sign up with your office or a group of friends and get a bag of fresh produce selected from that week’s market. Each bag is $15 and is filled with a variety of in season fruits, vegetables and a sweet treat.
The caliber of vendors is important to the success of the market and one vendor is starting the season with a new award in tow. The Happy Berry is a returning vendor and this year is boasting the 2014 Farmer of the Year award from the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association. Pick up dry arrangements like pussy willow that will add a locally grown touch to your flower arrangements for years to come. Be sure to ask about summer berry picking at the upstate farm.
The Winter Market hours will change over to the summer hours on the third Thursday of March. Stay tuned for more updates!
