Government Affairs

The mission of the Chamber's Government Affairs Committee is to help the Chamber Board of Directors and Chamber membership identify and evaluate issues that affect the Chamber, its members, and the business community.

Government Affairs Tasks

The committee works to influence the political process in a manner that promotes policies and programs that stimulate economic growth with particular emphasis on local issues in the following ways:

Provide representation and leadership - and a unified voice – on issues and projects affecting businesses and members on Hilton Head Island and in the Bluffton area and the U.S. 278 corridor.

Lobby and liaison with all levels of government for the good of businesses and members on Hilton Head Island and in the Bluffton area and U.S. 278 corridor.

Educate Chamber members about issues and energize them to support legislation that benefits businesses on Hilton Head Island and in the Bluffton area and the U.S. 278 corridor.

Government Affairs Goals

In preparing positions on legislation, the Chamber bases decisions on goals that include:

  • Regional cooperation, collaboration and partnership
  • Responsible planned growth, development and commerce
  • Well-planned infrastructure that facilitates orderly growth and commerce
  • Preservation of the natural beauty and environment of the region with a desire to ensure its quality for current and future generations of citizens and visitors
  • Use of sound business principals in government policy-making and administration
  • Continuous improvement in the education delivery system to provide for learning job and life skills and to provide well-trained employees
