LOCALAirport Deal The Town of Hilton Head Island and Beaufort County have reached an agreement on how to best handle the issue of unsafe flight lines due to the height of trees around the Hilton Head Regional Airport. The agreement allows the county to dispose of close to 200 trees in the area, followed by the review of an arborist hired by the town who will determine how to best handle the additional trees that have grown beyond FAA standards. It is estimated that 325 trees in total will need removal or cutting to meet FAA safety standards. The county will then plant over 600 new trees as part of the mitigation. |

FEDERALImmigration Bill to Return to the Senate Floor
With the strong support of the President and a $4.4 billion pledge to improve border security and strengthen workplace verification systems, US Senate leaders agreed to bring back the bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform bill to the Senate floor as early as next week.
Under the compromise, both Democrats and Republicans will be able to offer, debate, and vote on 11 amendments each. It is still unclear which amendments will be offered, and if those amendments will undercut the fragile compromise, however, it appears that debate on this important issue will continue in the Senate.
