Topic #1 -- Bluffton annexes major commercial properties -- Bluffton Town Council on Dec. 29 annexed the following commercial properties: Plantation Business Park, Westbury Park, Bluffton Commons and Sheridan Park, plus Belfair Towne Village on the north side of U.S. 278. Published reports say these properties contain 400 businesses. Bluffton voters approved the annexation 154-28 on Dec. 28, and Town Council officially approved the annexation the following day with the required ordinance. Also included in the annexation were Buck Island Road and Simmonsville Road areas. Bluffton's population now stands at approximately 6,400 with the addition of an estimated 1,500 new residents.

Topic #2 -- Admissions fee seminars scheduled Jan. 6 -- Beaufort County Council has scheduled seminars to explain the county's new local admissions fee ordinance. The 2.5 percent fee is to be charged at places of amusement, such as movie theaters and golf courses. The seminars are Jan. 6 at 10 a.m., in County Council chambers at 100 Ribaut Road in Beaufort and at 1:30 p.m., at the county library on Hilton Head Island.
