For some, bicycles are a visitors’ delight and for others, it is a means of transportation to and from employment. Whether you’re riding for exercise or commuting in the wee hours of the morning, bicycle safety is an issue we’re all faced with.

Heads Up for Safe Cycling is the year-long community outreach initiative implemented by the Hilton Head Island – Bluffton Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Class of 2007.

Heads Up for Safe Cycling, a safety initiative, provides diverse learning opportunities for school-aged children, parents, and the community. Leadership class members will distribute informational pamphlets and materials; provide equipment including helmets, reflectors and bells, and offer education about bicycle safety both in the classroom and at community events at no charge.

The mission of Heads Up for Safe Cycling is to promote bicycle safety and reduce serious injuries in our community. Bicycling is a year-round activity on Hilton Head Island and Bluffton for residents and visitors alike and each month during the spring and summer, 15-20 bicycle related injuries require local emergency room treatment.
